Manaiakalani Digital Fluency Intensive Training Week Two

Managing Workflow

It was great to hear from everybody what they have made use of this week from our new learning last weekend and if there were any issues.

We all joined a Hangout with Dorothy and she gave us some useful information and reminders about the importance of:

Recognise effective practice
Amplify this - recognise and sharing what is going on in classrooms with great learning happening
Turbocharge - using technology to do things that we weren’t able to do before
doing these things creates:
Effective Practice

We explored the Group Hangout and with a small number of people where everyone got to have a turn at presenting and speaking to the group. This was really beneficial to have a go so that we could troubleshoot issues and practice before "doing it for real". It was great during this exercise and a recorded Hangout discussion that we had at the other end of the day to reflect on how brand new stuff is scary and it's definitely ok to make mistakes!

Today we also looked at Google Mail and Google Keep and how we can use these tools to assist us in managing our workflow and making life easier. I'm excited about Google Keep and using this as a place to save resources and also to use image to text. I see this as having fantastic potential moving forward.

Tanya introduced us to some extensions including Toby Mini and OneTab. I think that Toby Mini has potential and have kept this on my computer to experiment with. I've also added my personal calendar to our school one, this will be helpful when trying to manage work/life balance!

Connections made today with other awesome educators joining my on this journey were great and I look forward to getting to know them more, sharing knowledge and ideas and asking questions as the weeks go on.

  1. Hello Angela,
Yes, I thought the review of what effective practice is and reminding us that technology is not just a tool but that it enables learning that was not possible previously possible to occur take place was pertinent. I think in your classroom it has been a challenge without 1-1 devices, however your openness to new learning and dedication to the profession is inspiring to others. I think Google Keep has many effective personal applications, while Toby Mini I too can see that it is going to be useful in planning. What application did you see today that you would like to use in the classroom?

  2. Kia Ora Angela, thank you for sharing both of the clips it is great to see the hangouts working and the learning that goes alongside it. Hopefully you you find Toby mini as useful as I have with taming the workflow. Adding stickers and frequent comments to google keep that yo can just paste into digital work you are marking is another great way to use keep through the side bar.
